How to Keep Your Care Home Safe from Legionnaires’ Disease

While water hygiene is essential for most businesses, it’s especially important when working with vulnerable patients/ residents.

Legionnaires’ disease is fatal for roughly 10% of people who contract it. However, this increases from anywhere between 40-80% for immunosuppressed or elderly patients.

The first (and most crucial) step towards making sure the people in your care home are safe is carrying out a legionella risk assessment. These are carried out by a qualified assessor who will:

  • Map out your water system
  • Take water temperatures
  • Identify areas of risk
  • Create a detailed schematic
